From most angles, it may look like Charlie Sheen's life is spiraling out of control, but from a publicity standpoint, the perennially troubled actor is doing exactly one thing: winning.Sheen's outrageous antics, coupled with his "tiger blood" and "Adonis DNA" have landed him massive press coverage, a pair of young girlfriends and most recently, a comic book from Bluewater Productions.
'Infamous: Charlie Sheen,' scheduled for release this summer, will chronicle Sheen's successes, including his highly paid role on 'Two and a Half Men,' and his recent battles with substance abuse and his seeming break with reality.
'Infamous' author Mark Shapiro says of the work, "Doing a book about Charlie Sheen is different from most bio comics in that the news is literally happening as we speak."
The author continues, "Who knows what he's going to say or do next and how that will fit into the context of telling his story ... As I am writing this I am constantly aware of what could change at the last possible minute. This is when comic book writing is more like journalism."
Darren Davis, president of Bluewater, which publishes a number of comics based on the lives of famous individuals, including Justin Bieber, Kathy Griffin and Sarah Palin, says that in addition to entertainment value, the goal of 'Infamous' is to inform.
"We're not looking to exacerbate what could be a sad situation; a public person self-destructing on camera," says Davis. "We can all laugh how outrageous Sheen is behaving, all waiting for the next 'Duh. Winning' moment, but I want to make sure that part of the focus of this issue deals fairly with mental health and substance abuse issues."
Adds Davis, "If Sheen contacted us right now and wanted us to donate some of the potential profits to a charity of his choosing, we would happily do so."
