2 U.S. Marshals, 1 Police Officer Shot In St. Louis, Police Say

ST. LOUIS ? Two federal marshals and a police officer were shot during a gunfight that left another man wounded early Monday at a house in St. Louis, city police said.

The two marshals are being treated at the Saint Louis University Hospital emergency room, said Laura Keller, a hospital spokeswoman. She did not release any details about their conditions nor their identities.

A St. Louis police officer was hit in his bullet-proof vest and suffered a graze wound and injuries from a fall, according to a recorded statement on the city police media hotline. It said he was taken to the Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Jason Merrill, a spokesman for the Barnes-Jewish Hospital, confirmed that one person wounded in the shooting was being treated there, but provided no name or details of that person's condition.

Television video footage from KTVI in St. Louis showed one marshal being carried down an alley by several officers and being put into an ambulance.

Police aren't immediately releasing further details about the shooting. There was no word on any arrests.

The neighborhood where the shooting occurred is in a poorer section of St. Louis' south side marked by tightly bunched, narrow two-story brick homes. Police have cordoned off several blocks on every side of the house with police tape and blocked access with police cars and vans.
